Cumberland, MD — The Bishop Walsh Varsity Girls Basketball team delivered a commanding performance Friday night, overwhelming Broadfording Christian Academy with a decisive 57–15 victory and showcasing the depth, talent, and bright future of the Lady Spartans program.
The starting lineup featured Anzleigh Simmons, Cayenne Ostrander, Lanie Odom, Aeri Jackson, and Naiara Shaffer, who set the tone early with relentless defense and efficient offense. Under the leadership of Head Coach Shane Scott, the Lady Spartans continue to establish themselves as a rising force within the conference. Coach Scott’s impact has been unmistakable, as his team consistently elevates its level of play and disrupts opponents with disciplined execution on both ends of the court.
Providing additional strength and defensive intensity were Taylenn Armentrout, Nila Navarette, Cara Daniel, and Tatianna Devalk, whose contributions further highlighted the team’s depth and commitment to high-energy basketball.
What makes this performance even more impressive is that the varsity roster is composed predominantly of freshmen—a young group already competing with confidence, composure, and cohesion well beyond their years. This victory stands as a clear sign that the Lady Spartans are building something special, with a program poised for long-term success.
The excitement continues as Bishop Walsh prepares for a highly anticipated redemption matchup against St. James on Wednesday, February 4th at 6:00 PM, hosted at Bishop Walsh School. The Lady Spartans will look to avenge a narrow 45–43 loss suffered during their season opener in what promises to be an intense and thrilling contest.
